Building Water Confidence Through Play
The best learning happens through play! These fun activities build swimming skills while keeping toddlers engaged and happy.
Face-Getting-Wet Activities
Rain Game
Gently sprinkle water on your toddler's head while singing "Rain, rain, go away." Start with just a few drops and gradually increase.
Wash the Face
Practice washing face with wet hands. Make silly faces together!
Blow Bubbles
Use a straw in shallow water to blow bubbles. This teaches breath control.
Kicking Games
Motorboat Song
Hold your toddler while singing "Motorboat, motorboat, go so slow... go so fast!" Encourage kicking to match the tempo.
Splash Contest
Who can make the biggest splash with their kicks? Fun and effective!
Reaching and Balance
Toy Rescue
Place toys just out of reach. Encourage your toddler to reach while you provide support.
Ring Around the Rosie
In shallow water, sing and move in a circle. "We all fall down" becomes a gentle dip!
Confidence Building
Jump In
From the pool edge (in shallow water), help your toddler jump to you. Start very close and gradually increase distance.
Under the Bridge
Create a bridge with your arms. Encourage your toddler to swim or walk underneath.
Remember: The goal is fun! If an activity causes stress, try something else. Play builds positive associations with water that last a lifetime.
